Common Problems in Foil Container Production (And How We Solve Them)

After 15 years of building aluminum foil container production lines, we can predict the phone calls. Not because customers aren't smart — but because certain problems appear in every workshop, in every country, usually a few weeks after production starts. Below are the ones we hear most, in the words our customers actually use, along with the solutions we build into our lines from day one.

Problem 1: "The scrap is piling up faster than my workers can clear it."

Every container stamped on an aluminum foil container making machine leaves edge waste behind — typically around 14.5% of your raw material. Second, the control system stores 60 sets of mold parameters — when you swap back to a mold you've run before, the machine already knows the settings. No re-tuning, no trial-and-error scrap. Problem 4: "Pre-oiled foil costs too much. Can I use plain foil?"

Container foil usually needs a food-grade lubricant coating so containers release cleanly from the mold. Buying pre-oiled foil is convenient — and consistently more expensive per ton. Customers ask us this almost weekly.

Both options work on our machines. If you want to cut material costs, run plain (uncoated) foil and apply lubrication at the press: we can equip the feeding system with an oil application device so you buy cheap base foil and oil it in-house. Our practical advice, proven across markets: start your first production runs with pre-oiled foil — it removes one variable while your team learns the line — then switch to plain foil plus in-line oiling once everything is stable. That sequencing typically saves the most money with the least risk.

Problem 5: "We changed foil supplier and suddenly nothing runs right."

Foil is not just foil. Alloy, temper, thickness, and surface condition all change how a container forms, and a batch that is slightly harder, slightly thicker, or unevenly rolled can turn a perfectly tuned aluminum foil container making machine into a scrap generator.   • "My packing staff can't keep up with the roll line." A box packing machine takes finished small rolls and automatically folds, inserts and boxes them, so the roll line keeps its speed all the way to the carton — the same labor-saving logic as the stacker on your container line.
